AKRON: A full-day seminar featuring updates on Mexican/Canadian customs and the NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) is being hosted by NEOTEC, the Kent-headquartered multi-county economic development group on Nov. 12 at the Crowne Plaza Cleveland South in Independence. FirstMerit Bank, headquartered in Akron, and International Risk Consultants are cosponsors of the event.
The seminar, also being hosted by the city of Mentor, will feature the consuls from Canada and Mexico, as well as a former Mexican customs audit official and legal representatives who are experts on Mexican, Canadian and U.S. rules and laws.
Registration for the seminar is at 7:30 a.m., with the program running from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The cost is $150 and includes a continental breakfast, buffet lunch, and seminar booklet. For details and to register, visit Upcoming Events on the NEOTEC web site, www.neotec.org.
NEOTEC, with offices on the campus of Kent State University, oversees two Northeast Ohio trade zones where companies can defer, reduce or avoid customs duties. It also administers the Global Trade Group, which provides global development services for area companies, as well as the Northeast Ohio Logistics Networks, which works to improve market access to Northeast Ohio.
