According to Customs Today sources, Pakistan imported huge quantity of tomatoes from India through Land Freight Unit of Wagha. Just in two days, 60 trucks of fresh Indian tomatoes crossed the border into Pakistan. Sources said that after arrival of this huge quantity of tomatoes so-called shortage of tomatoes in the city will be overcome and rates will be decreased from Rs 100 per kilogram to Rs 60 within one week.
This week tomatoes was short of supply in the makeshift markets as the vendors refused to sell it there due to price fixation issue while in the open market it was being sold at Rs 90 to 100 per kilogram.
The vendors in the makeshift markets told Customs Today that the market committee fixed tomatoes rates less than their purchasing price. So they are unable to sell it in the makeshift market. Surprisingly, the rates of tomatoes were double in just one month as during the last month its price was Rs 40 per kilogram which increased to Rs 100 per kilogram. On the other hand, smooth local supply continued but the rates were on the rise.
