Faisalabad ASO confiscates smuggled dates, truck worth Rs 5.2m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized 25,035 kilogram of smuggled dates worth Rs 1.18 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 429,072, besides impounding a truck worth Rs 4.2 million being used for the transportation of the smuggled items.

Sources told Customs Today that ASO received credible information through Model Customs Collectorate Faisalabad Collector Dr. Zulafqar Ali Chaudhary conducted a raid and intercepted a truck bearing Registration No. AE-0059 and recovered expired cartons of expired dates.

The ASO team asked the driver Ghulam Mustafa to produce any documents relating to its legal import but he could not show any documents; therefore, customs confiscated the goods and truck under Import and Export Trade (control) Act, 1950, punishable under section 156(1), 90 of Customs Act, 1969, Read with SRO 499(1)/2009.

ASO team comprising Superintendent Muhammad Javaid Mehmood, Deputy Superintendent Sardar Muhammad, Inspector Masood Saeed Chohan, Abdul Jabbar, Sepoy Muhkhtar Ahmed, Muhammad Abdullah and Israr Ahmad participated in the raid.
