Malaysia Marine police seize 1,000 smuggled logs worth RM 315,000

SARIKEI:  The Region Five Marine Police Force seized about 1,000 smuggled logs worth RM 315, 000 during operations in Sungai Sarawak Pakan here the other day.

State Marine Police Region Five commander Assistant Commissioner Kalai Chelvan Nadarajan, in a statement said acting on a tip-off, the team – including one officer from the Sarawak Forest Department office, four marine police personnel and two police officers from the district police station conducted the checks at the logging area at 10am.

He said initial checks revealed that the logs, which were found in different types and sizes, were believed to have been extracted illegally to be sold in the local market. “All of the logs of various types and sizes were confiscated and handed over to the Forestry Department in Sarikei for the next course of action.

“However, we have yet to ascertain the individuals behind this illegal activity,” said Kalai. He added that police welcomed cooperation from the public and other government agencies in providing information on any suspicious activities
