KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling remanded three suspects in the custody of Pakistan Customs for interrogation in a case pertaining to illegal removal of imported goods worth Rs 300 million from Lahore-bound cargo.
Pakistan Customs’ officer produced three suspects before the court seeing their remand for further interrogation.Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi granted seven-day physical remand of the accused.
According to the customs officials, the Pakistan Customs raided a godown in Karachi’s Site area and seized a huge cache of imported goods. The container was destined for Lahore Dry Port but it was illegally opened in Karachi and goods were removed.
The seized goods included 28,000 mobile phones, 47,000 contact lenses, 1,700 tablet computers, 122 DVD players, 214 LCDs, expensive perfumes, and washing machines.
Subsequently, an FIR was registered against the importer and bonded carrier. Three suspects, who are in custody of Pakistan Customs, are the employees of the bonded carrier.
