Germany ready to help Pakistan stem crippling energy crisis

LAHORE: German is ready to help Pakistan eliminate energy crisis through renewable energy sources, declared German Ambassador in Pakistan German Ambassador Dr Cyrill Jean Nunn during a visit to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

He urged the private sector to gear up for reaping benefits of the GSP Plus status granted by the European Union, stressing that Pakistan’s tourism sector had a lot of potential and should be developed through joint ventures.

Dr Nunn said the German government was committed to the rapid expansion of renewable energies and had created enabling environment for investment in renewable energy sector.

Speaking on the occasion, LCCI President Ijaz A Mumtaz said that over the past five decades, Germany had carried out several projects in Pakistan with a volume of more than 21 billion Euros.

He said that this includes investing in economic projects, alternate energy solutions, opportunities for students and public-private partnership under GIZ (German Technical Cooperation) for vocational trainings.

Former Wapda chairman Tariq Hameed, former LCCI president Farooq Iftikhar and Executive Committee Members were present on the occasion.
