LONDON: Unemployment in Britain fell by 103,000 people between July and September 2015, setting the unemployment rate at 5.3 percent, its lowest level in seven years, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics, or ONS.
The total number of unemployed according to ONS, reached 1.75 million people in that period, a 0.3 percent decrease from the previous quarter.
The number of employed people grew to a record 31.2 million, 419,000 more people in work than a year ago and 177,000 more than last quarter, revealed ONS.
The employment rate reached 73.7 percent, the highest since 1971.
However, the number of people receiving unemployment benefits rose for the third consecutive month in this country, with an increase of 3,300 people in October to 795,000.
