ISLAMABAD: The number of Third Generation (3G) and Fourth Generation (4G) users has crossed one million as a subsidiary of China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC), Zong, celebrated this milestone it achieved last month.

The company was offering Super 3G service which was capable of providing speed up to 42 Mbps – twice as fast as normal 3G – to its users.

Mobilink also claimed crossing one million subscribers for 3G. The other operators – Ufone and Telenor – also acquired 3G licenses in April this year and were in the race to attract subscribers to use 3G and 4G services by providing attractive packages.

The newly introduced 3G and 4G services witnessed a reasonable response as its subscription reached more than 2.9 million users since its launch.

Telecom experts said 3G adaptation has been tremendous during early months considering the limited coverage from telecom operators in the country. More than 2.9 million subscriptions in five months were more than what service providers were expecting.
