LHC orders PRA to avoid damaging repute of businessmen

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered to Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) to avoid damage the repute of the businessmen but continue action against the tax defaulter according to the law.

According to details, yesterday the Justice Shahid Jameel Khan has heard the case of fashion designer Hassan Shahryar (HSY) versus Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), whereas the counsel of appellant argued before the court that his client are paying taxes according to the sales, besides this the PRA has appointed monitoring officers to monitor sales and due to monitoring officer the sales has been effected.

He argued further that according to the article 18 and 25 of the constitution of Pakistan any person or Institution cannot intervention in legal business of any person.

On other side the legal advisor of PRA Barrister Ahmed Pinsota argued before the court that appellant not paying sales tax according to the sales and not cooperate to providing information and PRA monitoring HSY according to law, advisor added.

After hearing the argument of both parties, LHC judge Justice Jameel Khan remarks to additional commissioner Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) Aisha Ranjha that the sealing of businesses of the trader community has not appropriate attitude.

Judge remarks” if business run then people will pay taxes” PRA should introduce system of monitoring that is not known by the customers as well as not affecting the business.

Court ordered to additional commissioner Aisha Ranjha to ban the advertisement on media of action taken by him against any businessman because due to advertising the repute of businesses has been damaging.

Justice Shahid Jameel Khan added in remarks that if any person creates hindrances in tax collection or rude attitude with the officials of PRA the authority could register case against the accused. Court ordered to appellant to cooperate with the PRA and court has been adjourned till 8 December with ordered to appellant that he must present record before the court on given date.
