DUBAI: The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), retired Col. Hameed Ali, on Tuesday warned that any customs officer caught involved in corrupt practice, would serve the maximum 10-year jail term prescribed by law.
“You should all do this to minimize the chances of getting into trouble, except those who are criminally minded“, the CGC said.

The CGC further assured the custom personnel that there would be no favouritism in promotions, transfers and postings henceforth.
“No more godfather in the posting of the Nigeria Customs Service personnel. If you are not disciplined, forget it because we stand on discipline”.
Ali said he was committed to improving the welfare, residential and office accommodation of officers and men in the service across the nation which he noted would not be possible without improved revenue.
He said the Customs was being re-positioned to block avenues of wastages.
He, however, decried the remuneration of Customs workers, promising that he would discuss the issue of remuneration with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Nigerian Pilot reports that the customs boss gave this stern warning in Sokoto where he addressed customs officers of Sokoto/Zamfara/ Kebbi area command.
He said: “I am not happy with the remuneration of the customs personnel. I will go to Mr President to plead that something is done about it”, he said.
Ali was speaking in Kano during a familiarization tour of customs formations.
“We will renovate existing structures that need attention and build new ones where there is need”.
