TAIPEI: A joint task force seized over 200 kilograms of amphetamine in a raid in a residential area of New Taipei Monday, according to the Investigation Bureau.

The raid was conducted at four locations in New Taipei’s Xindian District after the main suspect, a man surnamed Chiang, was arrested outside one of the production facilities, the bureau said.

The authorities seized 110 kg of crystal amphetamine, 96 kg of amphetamine in liquid form, 1 million erimin pills, a gun and NT$800,000 (US$24,400), along with refrigerators and packaging equipment.

According to the bureau, Chiang used different locations to handle different stages of the amphetamine production and storage, a practice that has become common to reduce the bad smell produced during the manufacturing process.

Investigators working on the case for six months believe Chiang’s operation supplied dealers across Taiwan, and plan to probe the source of raw materials and the distribution network.
