Headquartered in Washington D.C., the CBP is the largest federal law enforcement agency under the auspices of the United States Department of Homeland Security and the largest law enforcement agency in the United States. The CBP is charged with regulating and facilitating international trade, collecting import duties and enforcing U.S. regulations, including trade, customs and immigration.

The CBP’s border security mission is led at ports of entry by CBP officers from the Office of Field Operations, along U.S. borders by agents from the U.S. Border Patrol, as well as from the air and sea by agents from Air and Marine Operations.

While its primary mission is preventing terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the U.S., the CBP is also responsible for apprehending individuals attempting to enter the U.S. illegally including those with criminal records, stemming the flow of illegal drugs and other contraband, protecting U.S. agricultural and economic interests from harmful pests and diseases from overseas sources, as well as protecting American businesses from intellectual property theft.

The CBP open house at Henry Ford College is divided into several workshops and information sessions: the history of the CBP, overview of CBP components, reporting requirements, which CBP career is right for you, preparing to apply, and USAJobs résumé writing.

In addition to the workshops and information sessions, there will also be the following demonstrations: vehicles, vessels, handheld equipment, technology, canines, and a tactical response team.

“We are excited to have the CBP on campus to recruit! They are a great organization and we hope that this becomes a regular event and that we can look to expand our partnership with them even more in the future,” said Chad Austin, Henry Ford College career services officer.
