Gold smuggling: Customs court sends 4 accused to jail on judicial remand

LAHORE: Customs Court sent four accused to jail on judicial remand on Monday hearing.

According to details available to Customs Today during the hearing of the case in which four accused are nominated. The Customs authorities said that they need to investigate more in this regard as there are more persons behind the crime and smuggling of heavy quantity of Gold and currency to Gulf States. This smuggling has made a huge loss to the national kitty.

After listening arguments customs court has issued orders of their judicial trial and sent all four accused including Toufeeq Butt to jail for 14 days judicial remand.

Earlier the Special federal court of Customs taxation and Anti Smuggling has issued 3 days physical remand of Toufeeq Butt in smuggling case for second time.

According to details Toufeeq Butt was on pre arrest bail by the Lahore High court in a Gold Smuggling case in which his alleged career Abdul Basit is in judicial remand already.

It is pertinent to mention here, that his colleague Abdul Basit was arrested by Customs authorities deployed at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore when he was attempting to smuggle 10 kilograms gold worth Rs 90 million international market value.
