KSE loses another 291pts as Sindh, Centre lock horns over Rangers

KARACHI: Opened with positive mood, the stock suffered bearish note in latter sessions as Sindh and federal governments have locked horns over redeployment and powers of Rangers in the province. The Karachi Stock Exchange benchmark KSE-100 index lost another 290.78 points to drop to 32467.04 level at closing on Tuesday.

The market recorded the highest trading level of 32994.96 points and lowest level of 32420.44 points, with the volume of 96,767,470 shares, having Rs7.9 billion value. As many as 329 companies were active; of which 99 advanced, 213 declined and 17 remained unchanged.

Technology & Communication remained the highest traded sector with total volume of 21,941,500 shares, while commercial banks remained second traded sector with a total volume of 12,993,500 shares.

The three top traded companies were TRG Pak Ltd with a volume of 18,675,000 and price per share of 34.33 (-1.80), Pak Elektron with a volume 8,080,500 of price per share of 66.57 (0.23), and Attock Refinery with a volume 7,834,000 of price per share of 197.23 (-3.66).

The top three gainers were Siemens Pak with price per share 950 (30), Khyber Tobacco XD with price per share of 398 (18.14) and AL-Ghazi Trac. XD with price per share of 419.44 (17.75).

The top three losers were Nestle Pak with price per share of 7116.22 (-374.53), Ferozsons (Lab) with price per share of 1043.12 (-33.78) and Island Textile per share of 635 (-33).

Earlier, despite observing a bearish day, the KSE added 102.27 points at opening to reach 32860.09 points level, with the total volume of 5,685,850 shares. In midday, the stock lost the early gains as the KSE-100 index lost 71.60 points to reach 32686.22 level.

On Monday, none of the indexes entered the green zone as uncertainty over power of Rangers in Karachi dented the investor’s confidence and the benchmark KSE-100 index fell 1.70% (-551.09 points) during the day. The index recovered in the last half hour of trading to close down 0.89% (-290.69 points) at 32,757.82. KMI 30 shed 469.02 points to end at 54,408.10 points while KSE All Share shrunk 0.93% to end day at 22,707.11.
