590MW Mahl Hydropower Project to cost $1,200m

ISLAMABAD: A letter of Interest (LoI) for the construction of 590 MW Mahl Hydropower Project, having estimate cost of $1,200 million, has been issued to M/s CWE Investment Corporation China and M/s Trans Tech Pakistan.

Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) issued the LoI in ceremony under the supervision of Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif.

PPIB Managing Director Shah Jahan Mirz signed the document on the behalf of the federal government, while Sheng Zhendong countersigned the document on behalf of sponsoring consortium.

Located at 4-5 kilometres upstream of the confluence of Mahl River with the River Jhelum on the boundary between Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Punjab, the site is 95 kilometres away from Islamabad. The project will be started in 2023 and will be completed within 3 years.
