KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling on Thursday adjourned until January 25 the bail confirmation pleas of suspects in a case pertaining to pilferage of US the Army transit cargo.
Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi adjourned the hearing due to absence of accused persons’ counsel.
According to the details, Ghani International, an authorized representative of Consulate General of the United States, filed goods declaration for a consignment of US Army reverse cargo. He declared that the cargo contained generators, transformer and equipment for export to Dubai via Karachi port.
During perusal and observation of the scanning images and weight, and weight slips of the GDs, the images of instant GD did not appear as per the description declared in the invoice and packing list.
Therefore, the consignment was examined physically in the presence of representatives of Multitrans International (Private) Limited, and Peerzada Services International being the authorized representative of the US Consulate General.
During the course of examination, shipper and custom seals were found intact. However, the generating sets declared in the invoice and packing list were not found in the containers.
Subsequently, an FIR was lodged against the directors of Port Connection namely Raza-ur-Rehman, Malik Ali Asghar and Romail Ahmed Dar, Shahzad Rasool of Multitrans Logistics, Peerzada Abdul Aleem of Peerzada Services International, Adil Ghani of Ghani’s International, Shahid Ansari of Bilal Associates, Tikka Khan of Adil Goods Transport Co., Irfan Afridi and others.
