LTBA holds workshop on ‘Amendment of Assessment’

LAHORE: The Lahore Tax Bar Association (LTBA) Thursday held workshop on “Amendment of Assessment,” reopening and reassessment of the taxpayers.

A large number of taxpayers, tax lawyers and income tax petitioners participated in the workshop.

On the occasion, LTBA President Munsha Sukhera, General Secretary Qamar uz Zama, Finance Secretary Mirza Mubashar Baig and Joint Secretary Muhammad Ali Awan were also present.

The participants were informed that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officers can not reopen and reassess the taxpayer depriving him from the right to self-assess unless they have accurate information and proof that the taxpayer has evaded his tax liability.

On the occasion, LTBA President Munsha Sukhera said that the FBR officials have been reopening and reassessing the taxpayers without solid proof and information, which is illegal.

He said that following reassessment without information the bank accounts of the taxpayers are attached and recovered tax liability.

On the other hand when the taxpayer avail his right to appeal, he is extended relief and the department has to return the recovered amount due to the verdict against the department.

The LTBA president urged the Finance Minister and FBR chairman to take the notice of the situation and hold responsible to the officials who reassessed the taxpayers’ without sufficient proofs and information.
