KINGSBRIDGE: Police seized 135 pounds of cocaine from two young suspects who were part of a “major narcotics trafficking network.”
Mark Soto, 23, and Xavier Herbert-Gumbs, 22, were arrested Thursday when police found millions of dollars worth of cocaine in their cars and apartment, according to the Special Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office.
On Thursday at 6:15 p.m., police stopped a Chevy Tahoe at Williamsbridge Road and Pelham Parkway. Herbert-Gumbs was riding as a passenger in the car.
Authorities found 110 pounds of cocaine in brick-shaped packages in the backseat of the car.
Less than an hour later, police saw Soto leaving his Hyundai rental car with Massachusetts license plates at Corlear Avenue and West 231 Street. He was reportedly seen leaving with a military bag with his name.
They recovered 26 more pounds of cocaine inside the box. Police say this cocaine was from Massachusetts. Police also found Herbert-Gumbs’ ID card in Soto’s car.
Authorities then raided an apartment at 3120 Corlear Avenue, recovering $6,000 in a black plastic bag.
Soto and Herbert-Gumbs were both charged Friday evening with criminal possession of a controlled substance. Their bail was set at $400,000 in cash.
