Director Intelligence Saleem says FBR taking effective measures to curb smuggling

ISLAMABAD: Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Muhammad Saleem has said that curbing smuggling is need of the hour and strong policies are being adopted to curb smuggling in the country,

He was addressing a seminar on “Impact of Smuggling on Pakistan’s Economy” hosted by Mir Khalilur Rehman Memorial Society.

Apart from Director Customs Intelligence and investigation Muhammad Saleem, Collector Customs Peshawar Qurban Ali, Collector Customs Lahore Mukarram Jah Ansari and other officials also participated in the seminar.

Addressing the seminar, Muhammad Saleem said that “we are following zero tolerance policy against the smugglers and are focusing on smuggling free Pakistan.” He said: “We have introduced strong intelligence network in this regard.”

He said that the government has launched a grand operation in the country against smuggling and there is a full coordination with other law enforcement agencies. He added that all the law enforcement agencies and customs department have join hands for smuggling free Pakistan.

He said during the last few months, the Customs Department successfully has foiled several attempt of smuggling on borders and cities.  He said that the department is well aware of the impact and loss of money through smuggling and it is hoped that the department will break the network of smuggling mafias with the current strategy.
