FBR Inland Revenue detects tax evasion of Rs 54 billion in one year

ISLAMABAD: Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue, FBR, detected tax evasion of Rs 54 billion during one year and arrested 31 suspects who were involved in tax evasion.

According to official statistics collected by Customs Today, during the tenure of current Director General Inland Revenue Haroon Tareen, the department’s performance on detection of tax evasion raised five percent. During previous fiscal year, the Inland Revenue Department detected tax evasion from Rs 12 billion to Rs 14 billion during one year. But during the period of current DG, the directorate detected tax evasion cases amounting to Rs 54 billion. On the other hand, the Inland Revenue Department registered 157 FIRs and conducted raids.

According to official statistics 240 investigations reports preared which involved a revenue of Rs 22.5 billion, and the same department prepared 757 contravention reports involved a revenue of Rs 28 billion. Sources of Inland Revenue Department told this scribe that credit of this outstanding performance goes to current Director General Inland Revenue Haroon Tareen. Sources said that his performance is also hailed by Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Chairman FBR Nisar Mohammad Khan.
