FBR detects tax return filers paying zero tax

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue has traced tax return filers those are paying zero income tax in order to take action against them, it is learnt here.

Sources said that FBR has scrutinised the tax profilers for the fiscal year 2014-15 and found that 38 percent filers had not paid even a penny in wake of taxes, adding that notices have been issued to them.

The sources said that 855,000 taxpayers filed their tax returns during FY2014-15, adding that 322,000 had paid zero tax, which has motivated FBR to take action against such elements.

They added that 1,323 taxpayers paid only Rs 1 to Rs 99 as tax, which were 0.2 percent of the total taxpayers, while 8,454 people deposited tax between Rs 100 to Rs 500 and 251,000 has paid Rs 501 to Rs 20,000 tax, which were 29 percent of the total taxpayers.
