Hyderabad ASO confiscates contraband items worth Rs 7 million

HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized smuggled items, including Iranian diesel and cigarettes worth Rs 7 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 1.5 million during the last week of December.

The ASO team, following the instruction of Model Customs Collectorate Collector Dr Ahmed Mujtaba Memon, foiled smuggling bids in the region saving the national exchequer.

The team in an operation intercepted an oil tanker bearing Registration No. TLD-615 near Hyderabad Bypass loaded with 33,100 litres of Iranian diesel. The officials asked the driver to produce documents showing legal import of the vehicle but he remained fail. Therefore, the ASO impounded the truck worth Rs 5 million and diesel worth Rs 1.8 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 1.4 million.

During another operation, the ASO team raided Kotri Railways Station and confiscated four cartons of smuggled cigarettes worth Rs 200,000, involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 150,000.

Under the supervision of Additional Collector Umar Shafique, the ASO team comprising Deputy Superintendent Sikander Akbar Pahnwar, Inspectors Anwar Ahmed Saddiqui, Waqar Ahmed Baig, Syed Nazim Ali and others took part in the operations.
