Customs Intelligence-Enforcement seizes items worth Rs 504 million

KARACHI: Directorate General Custom Intelligence and Investigation-Enforcement confiscated various contraband items worth Rs 504.51 million and arrested seven suspects during the first six months (July-December) of current fiscal year 2015-16.

According to the details, the Customs Intelligence while conducting different raids clutched different items, including pilferage goods from ISAF consignment, poppy seeds, mix metal scrap, sea salt, polyester enamel, copper busbars, photo electric error controller, Beach Buggy bike, micro computer, cell phones, memory cards, laptops, Apple pencils, inverters, assorted yar, aluminium caps, LED lights and other smuggled goods.

Besides, seven persons allegedly involved in smuggling were also arrested and their challans were submitted in the Customs Court. The seizure reports of the cases have also been sent to adjudication concerned.

Responding to a query, Customs Intelligence-Enforcement Director Muhammad Yaqoob Mako confirmed the seizures and informed that the anti-smuggling operations will be continued following the directions of Director General Imtiaz Ahmad Khan.

He further said that numbers of godowns located at different parts of Karachi were also raided in order to recover smuggled good causing loss to national exchequer.

He further told that the teams of Customs Intelligence-Enforcement conducted raids under the supervision of Additional Director Touseef Amaan. The team comprising Assistant Director Amjad Rajper, Superintendents Zafar Iqbal, Ilyas Ahmed and other officers participated in the raids.
