KARACHI: Pakistan’s imports from the United States surged 39 percent year-on-year to $3.27 billion during FY2025-26, reflecting stronger trade activity between the two countries, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Imports from the US increased from $2.35 billion in FY25 to $3.265 billion in FY26, while Pakistan’s exports to the US reached $6.125 billion during the same period.

The increase was driven by higher imports of American goods and commodities as bilateral trade continued to expand.

North America Trade

Overall, Pakistan’s merchandise exports to North America rose 1.32 percent to $6.503 billion in FY26, compared to $6.418 billion in the previous fiscal year.

Meanwhile, imports from North America grew at a faster pace, rising 6.52 percent to $3.822 billion.

The United States remained Pakistan’s largest export destination in North America, accounting for approximately 94 percent of the region’s total exports.

Exports to Canada and Mexico Decline

While exports to the US remained strong, shipments to other North American markets weakened.

Exports to Canada declined 2.3 percent to $377.5 million.

Exports to Mexico also decreased during FY26.

South America Exports Rise

Beyond North America, Pakistan’s exports to South America increased 15 percent, reaching $402.4 million during FY26.

Analysts attribute the rise in US imports partly to evolving US trade policies, including tariff measures and reciprocal trade arrangements that encouraged Pakistan to increase purchases of American products.
