TORONTO: The hunt is on for a GTA drug trafficker after customs officers found 10 kilograms of cocaine at Pearson International Airport Sunday.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says officers were monitoring the offload of luggage from an aircraft originating in Central America Sunday night and noticed an unclaimed backpack with a seemingly-recycled airline luggage tag.
After opening the luggage and examining the contents, officers found ten brick-shaped bundles. All the bundles were subsequently tested and found to contain cocaine.
The drugs were turned over to the RCMP for further investigation.
“I want to thank our frontline officers for their resiliency and determination in combating illicit activities and keeping dangerous drugs from entering our country,” said Goran Vragovic, CBSA Regional Director General, Greater Toronto Area Region.
Last year, the CBSA in the Greater Toronto Area made 149 cocaine seizures totalling close to 700 kg.
