BERLIN: German customs seized 200 kilos of smuggled tobacco, worth 15,000 euros, which was purchased in Luxembourg to be resold in Poland.
According to information from the German authorities, a 43-year-old Eastern European driver was intercepted in Saarbrücken, Germany, on Tuesday.
He claimed a third party asked him to purchase the tobacco and transport it to Poland where he would receive 400 euros for his troubles.
Under European law, tobacco products sold for commercial purposes are taxed in the country of sale.
