Govt collected Rs 183b gas cess in three years

ISLAMABAD: The government has collected around Rs 183 billion on account of Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) from January 2012 to December 31, 2015, official sources in Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources said.

“The GIDC was levied from January 2012 and the amount collected under GIDC stood at Rs 183.86 billion,” they told APP. Giving province’s wise breakup, they said Rs 133.22 billion were collected from Sindh, Rs 4.703 billion from Balochistan, Rs 38.226 billion and Rs 6.763 billion from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa respectively.

They said the amount, deposited into accounts of the federal government, was supposed to be utilized for infrastructure development of Iran Pakistan (IP) and Turkmenistan Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline projects, Liquefied Natural Gas or other ancillary projects.

So far, they said, the GIDC amount had not been utilized as the rules for GIDC spending were not in place and the same was under active proportion. They said the GIDC receipts would be utilized after finalization and subsequent approval of the rules.
