ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has imposed a fine of Rs 1 million on the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for falling short of a rule on fuel price adjustment, which delayed a downward revision in consumers’ electricity bills.
The power regulator makes fuel price adjustments (FPA) every month within seven days after the CPPA submits the details to hold a hearing for fuel cost adjustment. The agency is required to submit the details by the 3rd of every month.
According to an official, the CPPA did not submit the requisite information within the prescribed time and violated the directions of the authority.
This was for the first time that the authority penalised CPPA. This fine was imposed under the Rule 6 of the Nepra (Fines) Rules 2012, after the authority rejected the agency’s response to a show-cause notice.
