Govt should declare import of solar, wind energy goods as tax free: RCCI President Humyun Pervaiz

ISLAMABAD: Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mian Humyun Pervaiz has said that the government should declare the import of solar energy generation goods as tax free so the burden of hydel and thermal power could be decreased. He asked the government to announce decrease in GST on petrol so that the industrial activities may be restored.

During an exclusive interview with Customs Today, he said that due to decrease in petroleum prices globally “we are still unable to get desired benefits because we are already paying huge taxes on petroleum products.” He said that we should adopt wind or solar energy system. He said after the lifting of international sanctions on Iran the progress on Tapi and Pakistan-Iran Gas Pipeline project will gear up. He asked the concerned authorities to complete these projects as early as possible. Mian Humyun Pervaiz said that due to revenue shortfall government announced minor cut in petroleum prices.

Answering a question he said that government should form different committees to study feasibility reports before establishing an economy zone. He advise traders community to take the benefits of tax amnesty scheme announced by the government. He said we are living as a family members in Pakistan and if a guardian of a family spends his income on the welfare of his family on the same pattern if our country earns something it will able to spend the same on the betterment of our country.

He said that chambers, government and business community is just like a bridge so we have to use this bridge for solving the problems of each other. He also suggested that FBR should change its mindset and avoid to harass people issue unnecessary tax notices. He said previous governments also announced various tax amnesty schemes but they did not bring any positive results. He said the only way to bring more and more people under tax net is to decrease tax rate. Mian Humyun said that FBR expecting that they will successfully bring at least one million people under tax net but only few thousand people will avail the opportunity of tax amnesty scheme. He admitted that sometime business community forwarded their illegal demands to the government but government should accept our legal demands.

Answering a question Mian Humyun said that we will forward our suggestions then they will forward the same to FBR for approval. He appreciates the performance of tax commissioner of Rawalpindi and said that we are ready to support FBR in every measure to generate tax revenue.
