PTI challenges petroleum prices in LHC

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) challenged petroleum prices in Lahore High Court. Deuty opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rashid challenged filed the plea on behalf of PTI.

Sources informed Customs Today that in his plea the appellant says that government cannot impose any tax without approval by parliament. He said government did not take parliament on board regarding petroleum prices and issued a notification to increase sales tax on petroleum products which is totally illegal.

He prayed to court to declare increase in sales tax on petroelum prices and null and void. He said that according to decrease in petroleum prices in international market OGRA recommends to government to decrease prices of petroleum upto Rs 12 per liter but government announced reduction in petroleum prices of only Rs 5 and also increase sales tax on petroleum products. People are paying 98 percent tax on diesel.
