Australian envoy vows to make efforts to boost mutual trade ties with Pakistan

SIALKOT: High Commissioner of Australia to Pakistan Margaret Adamson has assured the Sialkot exporters to provide level playing field for the promotion of Sialkot-Pakistan exports to Australia, besides, assuring to make all out sincere efforts to ensure the easy access of the Sialkot exports to Australian and other European markets through Australia.
She stated this while addressing an important meeting with local exporters held at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here today. SCCI President Maj(Rtd) Mansur Ahmed, SVP Muhammad Sarfraz Butt, Khawar Anwar Khawaja (Chairman Sialkot Dry Port Trust-SDPT), Majid Raza Bhutta (Chairman CSDO), former SCCI President Fazal Jillani, former SVPs Mian Muhammad Anwar, Mir Alamgir Meyer, Mian Mohsin Gull, Syed Shabina Gillani and Zahid Shehnaz were also present on this occasion.
She said that Australia was ready to export LNG to Pakistan for helping Pakistan to overcome the prevailing energy crisis in Pakistan, saying that several Australian companies have shown keen interest in investing in Pakistan’s energy, education, agriculture and water management sectors.
Australian High Commissioner said that the Australia was also very keen to develop the business-to-business contacts between the businessmen of both Pakistan and Australia as well.
She stressed the need of making all out sincere efforts to boost the mutual trade ties between Pakistan and Australia, saying that both Australia and Pakistan have been enjoying good friendly and cordial trade relations and now the time was ripe to further strengthen these mutual trade ties, as all the things were moving to the right direction, in this regard.
She added that there was huge scope of promoting trade with Pakistan, besides, assuring full cooperation and technical assistance to promote and develop education and agriculture sectors in Pakistan.
She said that there were bright opportunities of setting up joint ventures with Sialkot-Pakistan business community in different trade fields, as the several Australian companies were showing keen interest, in this regard.
She vowed to make all out sincere efforts to boost mutual trade ties between Pakistan and Australia, saying that the time was ripe to further strengthen these mutual trade ties between the two countries.
She also stressed upon the need of making some effective and positive steps for boosting and strengthening the mutual trade ties between Pakistan and Australia, inviting the Pakistan business community to divert their business activities to Australia.
She pledged full support and technical assistance to ensure the easy access of Pakistan business community to international trade markets of Australia and Europe through Australia.
She agreed with SCCI proposal regarding the regular exchange of updated trade information and mutual trade delegations to enhance the trade between the two countries.
While presenting his address of welcome, President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Maj (Rtd) Mansur Ahmed said that there is huge scope for quality products of Sialkot to be exported to Australia, he stressed the need to exploit to the maximum through mutual cooperation.
SCCI President revealed that Pakistan and Australia have always enjoyed cordial relations based on mutual trust and confidence in each other’s expertise. Bilateral trade between Pakistan and Australia is stable and volume of trade between the two countries remained over US $ 600 (M) in 2015.

He looked forward to enhance the bilateral trade and interpersonal relations through creating effective linkages with the Australian High Commission in Pakistan.
In order to exploit the true potential which both the friendly countries hold, it is important for the business community on both sides to interact and create strong trading relationships, he added.
He urged the Australian High Commissioner that business visitors to Australia be encouraged and facilitated.
SCCI President revealed that Sialkot exporters have a great potential to explore and capture the international trade markets of Australia by exporting their world class traditional and non-traditional export products. For improving bilateral trade, Sialkot exporters suggested that exchange of trade delegations and one-to-one meetings of businessmen of both sides may be arranged.
High Commissioner of Australia to Pakistan Ms. Margaret Adamson, today, visited several leading industrial units in Sialkot. She witnessed and hailed the international standard craftsmanship of the Sialkot based artisans.
