FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has seized miscellaneous smuggled items worth Rs 2.410 million, involving Rs 6.361 million customs duties and taxes.
Source told Customs Today that after receiving information regarding smuggled of the items, Deputy Collector Muhammad Falik Sher constituted a special team comprising Superintendent Muhammad Javed Mehmood, Deputy Superintendent Sardar Muhammad, Masood Saeed Chohan, Abdul Jabbar, Afzal hussain Inspector, Hafiz Naseer Ahmed, Zulafqar Ali, Liaquat Ali, and Muhammad Abdullah (sepoys).
The team conducted a successful raid near Gattwala Toll plaza Sheikhupura and intercepted a Mazda truck bearing registration No LES-11-6067. During searching, ASO team found foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs 1.53 million, Playing card packet worth Rs 3.5 million, foreign origin curtain and velvet cloth worth Rs 0.2 million, aluminium foil worth Rs 0.25 million, cigarette lighter worth Rs 0.22 million, gutkha worth Rs 0.30 million and India made chewing tobacco worth Rs 0.150 million.
ASO authorities asked the accused persons namely Haji Ihsan Karim and Muhammad Irfan to provide legal documents regarding imported goods but they failed to do so. ASO team seized the smuggled items and sent the accused persons behind the bar. Further investigations are underway in this regard.
