Hyderabad ASO seizes smuggled juices, chocolates

HYDERABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) confiscated 280 cartons of Rani Juice, chocolates and other goods worth Rs 808,800 involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 280,642 during an operation in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad Customs Additional Collector Omar Shafique received information regarding the smuggling on which he formed a team comprising Deputy Superintendent Sikander Akbar Phanwar, Inspector Khair and others to curb the smuggling attempt.

The ASO team intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No. near Hyderabad Bypass and recovered 280 cartons of foreign origin Rani juice valued at Rs 408,960 involving duty/taxes Rs 141,908, 160 cartons of chocolate, toffees and other goods worth Rs 399,840 involving duty/ taxes Rs 138,234/

The official asked the driver to produce documents about the possession of said items but he could not produce any legal documentary evidence; therefore, the ASO team confiscated the items and registered a case against the accused person.
