Rs18.09m under-invoicing: Collector Seema serves show-cause on Momentum Trading, clearing agent

ISLAMABAD: Collector Adjudication Seema Raza Bukhari has issued show-cause notices to Momentum Trading Corporation and clearing agent Iqbal and Co for under-invoicing of Rs18,098,371 after MCC Islamabad team constituted for post clearance audit of import of AFU, Rawalpindi Airport proved them guilty in Contravention 02/2014 case.

As per details, Momentum Trading Corporation imported USA origin Orizaba (dried purified plant of Orizabansis) from Mexico and it was found that Orizaba was cleared under GD No HC-2207 at $4.50/kg instead of its value of $65/kg which proved that the importer deliberately committed under-invoicing. Contravention report of this case was prepared by Principal Appriaser at AFU Imports Islamabad and Headquarters constituted a special team for post clearance audit of the case. The team recommended in its report to recover Rs18,098,371 from the importer and declared that the importers filed fake invoices in connivance with clearing agent Iqbal and Co.

Deputy Collector Import issued demand notice c.no.si/imp/misc/58/2014-728 to Momentum Trading Corporation and clearing agent Iqbal and Co to submit evaded duty/taxes in the national exchequer within 7 days. The importer neither submitted the duty/taxes nor contested the demand notice. Momentum Trading was issued another reminder at its business address but the imposter did not pay any attention towards it.

Now, Collector Seema Raza Bukhari has issued show-cause notice to submit evaded duty/taxes within 10 days. Hearing of the case is scheduled for November 25.
