Ukraine SPVC imports rise 31% for 2016

MOSCOW: Imports of suspension polyvinyl chloride (SPVC) into Ukraine increased by 31% in the first two months of this year, compared to the same period in 2015 and reached about 18,700 tonnes, according to MRC DataScope.

February SPVC imports into Ukraine seasonally increased to 14,600 tonnes, compared with 4,100 tonnes in January 2015. The main increase occurred for North American resin. Total SPVC imports in the country grew to 18,700 tonnes in January – February 2016, compared with 14,300 tonnes year on year. Structure of PVC imports into Ukraine over the reported period was as follows.

February imports of US SPVC in Ukraine grew to 10,400 tonnes, compared with 2,100 tonnes in January. Such a serious increase in the volume of imports of North American resin resulted from the desire of some producers of window profile to build up cheaper additional inventories ahead of the high season.

Export PVC prices in the USA are usually the lowest in November – December, the deals were done in the range of $680-700/tonne CIF Odessa. Russia’s imports of US resin were 12,500 tonnes in the first two months of the year, compared with 6,600 year on year. February imports of European PVC into Ukraine increased to about 2,900 tonnes, compared to 1,700 tonnes in January on the growing supplies from the producers of window profiles. Total imports of European PVC were 4,600 tonnes in the first two months of the year, compared with 5,300 tonnes year on year.

February SPVC imports from Russia increased to 1,200 tonnes from 340 tonnes in January. The purchases increased producers of profiles and plasticized PVC compounds. Imports of resin from Russia decreased to 1,500 tonnes in Jan-Feb 2016, compared with 2,400 tonnes year on year.
