Customs Court extends physical remand of currency smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs, Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has extended the physical remand of a suspect who was arrested from Lahore airport while making an attempt to smuggle foreign currency to Bahrain.

As per detail, the accused Tahir Bharwana son of Sikandar Hayat Bharwana was arrested by the Customs authorities from Lahore airport. Tahir Bharwana was getting boarding card for a flight of Bahrain. On his suspicious movements, the Customs preventive checked his luggage and found a huge amount of foreign currency. The Customs team took him aside and recovered $7,135 and 16,000 Bahraini dinars from  him.

Sources told Customs Today that the estimated value of the foreign currency is Rs 5.2 million which is illegal to take with a passenger to travel abroad. Therefore, Customs team arrested the accused and registered a case against him under section 2 (s), 16, 139, 156, (17), 87 (70), and 178 of Customs Act 1969.

Customs Court on request of Customs preventive approved more two days physical remand of the accused for more investigation and handed over him to investigation team.
