Gujranwala Customs Intelligence confiscates items, vehicles worth Rs 5.7 billion

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala, has seized smuggled cloth, non-customs paid vehicles, tea and other items worth Rs 5.7 billion from February 15 to March 15.

Under the supervision of Customs Intelligence Assistant Director Zainab Mehmood, the team comprising Deputy Director Muhammad Anwar, Superintendent Saifullah, Inspector Majid Raza and others conducted various raids in Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad and other areas to curb smuggling attempts.

The Customs Intelligence team impounded 20 luxury vehicles, including Mercedes, Toyota Corolla, Marx Prado, etc, which were brought into the country without paying duty and/taxes, causing loss to the national kitty. Besides, smuggled cloth, tea, electronics, blankets, auto spare parts and other items were also seized during the raids.

During the actions, the officials also arrested alleged smugglers and registered cases against them. The cases have been sent to the adjudication for further legal action.

Assistant Director Zainab Mehmood told Customs Today that the smugglers were the enemy of the country, as they were damaging the national economy. She said that smugglers would not be allowed to carry out their activities in the country.

On the other hand, Customs Intelligence Director General Imtiaz Ahmad hailed the performance of the officials and announced to give them appreciation certificates and cash prizes.
