Customs Court grants judicial remand of alleged smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has approved a 14-day judicial remand of a suspect allegedly involved in smuggling of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene film from Afghanistan to Faisalabad. The market value of the seized film is Rs 4.5 million.

Sources told Customs Today that the suspect, who was identified as Mubarak Sheikh, was arrested by Customs authorities in Faisalabad.

He was caught red handed by the Customs intelligence when he was trying to smuggle film in Faisalabad. Sheikh, the son of Shamasul Qamar, was involved in smuggling of BOPP films. The Customs Faisalabad on intelligence information raided his warehouse and recovered two trucks loaded with smuggled items.

The warehouse was also owned by Mubarak Sheikh. Customs authorities asked him to show legal evidences of the BOPP film but he failed to produce the same. Customs authorities arrested him on the spot and registered a case against him under section 2 (2), 16, 18, 132 A, 156 89 and 178 of Customs Act of Pakistan 1969. FIR number 2/2015 has registered against the accused.
