Hyderabad ASO seizes items worth Rs 23m

HYDERABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized smuggled items worth Rs 23.34 million involving duty/taxes of millions of rupees during an operation in Hyderabad.

Following the direction of Model Customs Collectorate Collector Agha Majeed Khan, the ASO team is conducting various operations in the regions in order to foil the smuggling bids, officials said.

During recent operation, Additional Collector Omer Shafique after receiving credible information formed a team comprising Superintendent Saleem Channa, Deputy Superintendent Sikanadar Pahnwar, Anwar Ahmad Siddiqui, Inspector Nazim Ali, Waqar Ahmad Baig and Abdul Ghaffar, Sepoys Sadique Khas Kheli, Usman Jonejo and driver Nisar Hemdani.

The team raided a godown near Hyderabad Market Police Station and recovered huge quantity of smuggled foreign origin goods, including 845 cartons of cigarette, 260 cartons of gutka, 288 shisha and other smuggled items.

During the raid, the ASO team faced resistance during which an Inspector Abdula Ghaffar was killed. The ASO team confiscated the items after making seizure report under the prevailing customs laws.
