LAREDO: U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Zapata Station working with the Government of Mexico (GoM) yielded a large narcotic seizure. At about 8:00 p.m., Zapata Border Patrol agents observed several subjects loading bundles of contraband in two separate boats on the Mexican side of the river near Zapata, Texas. Agents had been monitoring the group and contacted the Government of Mexico (GoM) to update them about the location. GoM officials located and confiscated the narcotics, which was a significant amount.
A total of 465 bundles was seized by Mexican military. The bundles tested positive for marijuana and had a total weight of 7,297.4 pounds, with a street value of $5.6M.
“This seizure clearly demonstrates the exceptional level of binational cooperation that the Border Patrol has with the government of Mexico. We fully intend to continue this level of cooperation between both governments to locate and prevent the smuggling of illicit contraband,” said Mario Martinez, Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent.
