Customs asked to file reply on suspending licenses of clearing agencies

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed M/S Tayyaba Agency, M/S Decent Enterprises, M/S Al-Tijjar logistic, M/S Madras Shippers those filed application against revocation of their licenses to provide the copy of the petition to the respondents.

The SHC division bench headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah also directed the Customs Port Qasim collector, assistant collector (Recovery Cell) and others to make sure filling of their comments on the next hearing.

Earlier, the counsel of the petitioners stated that they are partners of their respective customs clearing and forwarding agencies. On the basis of letter issued by the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation, FBR on May 17, 2010, their licenses were suspended.

The counsel stated that respondents alleged that the petitioners involved in pilfering of Afghan Transit Cargo and defaulter in terms of Section 202 of the Customs Act, 1969. He argued that his clients are going through financial losses due to non-operational licenses.
