FBR decides to start probe against Pakistanis mentioned in Panama Leaks

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue has decided to start investigations against those 200 Pakistani citizens who names is already mentioned in Panama Leaks.

Sources of FBR informed Customs Today that after prime minister’s decision to set-up a judicial commission, FBR is waiting for its “terms of reference”. As soon as FBR will get “terms of reference” of judicial commission, inquiry will be started against those Pakistani citizens who established off-shore companies.

Sources said that FBR will investigate against those Pakistani by itself and will use all legal channels in this regard. FBR will also examine different accord signed with other countries on double taxation. Sources said that according to these accords some countries are bound to provide relevant information about tax informations.

Sources said that in case government will not form judicial commission, then FBR will not probe agaisnt these Pakistani by its own. Sources said that FBR is not bound to obtain permission from government to start investigations, and high-ups of government are aware about this development.

Sources said that FBR is not facing any pressure from any quarter on investigation. FBR will determine that all the revenue which was transferred to establish off-shore companies was earn through legal channels or not. FBR will also investigate how they transferred the amount outside Pakistan, and how many Pakistanis are still residing in Pakistan.

Sources said that now FBR is only waiting for “terms of reference” of judicial commission announced by prime minister, as soon as government will finalize its terms of reference FBR will start its proceedings.
