Customs central region set to collect Rs 350m to meet annual revenue collection target

LAHORE: The Customs Central region has recovered Rs 100 million while Rs 250 million are being expected to be recovered as a result of extra measures enabling the region to meet its financial year 2015-16 target.

This was sated by Deputy Collector of Customs Abbas Ali Babar and Special Assistant of Central Chief Collector of Customs Sumaira Nazir while giving a brief overview and performance of the central region revenue collection to Customs Today.

The chief collector paid visits to all the customs establishments and motivated the collectors and staff to put maximum efforts to meet the financial target, Babar said, adding that the chief has also started visiting customs establishments in Faisalabad and Multan Collectorates.

He added that the revenue collections are being monitored on daily basis while periodical meetings are being conducted with the collectors in the Customs House to meet the revenue collection.

He added that the central region on the instructions of chief collector set up special audits units of DTRE and WeBOC clearance that resulted in recovery of Rs 100 million important revenue collection while auctions of gold, currency and other valuables are also being aggressively undertaken to enhance revenue collection.

He shared that due to the falling prices tendency in petroleum prices revenue collection from Faisalabad and Multan collectorates revenue collection has significantly dropped and the extra measure taken by the central region will surely help bridge the revenue gap deficit.

In addition to these direct measures indirect measure on valuation and clearance fronts have also been taken up. The chief collector hold meetings with DG Plant and Protection Department DG valuation in Karachi to remove impediments in the way of smooth clearance and valuation of fruits and vegetable by way of Wagha boarder.

He added that due tp very steps and regular monitoring a positive increase of 5 percent in almost all taxes including FED, sales tax, WHT, has been witnessed to date.

To a question the special assistant to chief collector central answered that the chief collector also took up with the railways authorities the issues of security in order to avoid any chance of drug smuggling between India and Pakistan.

In the results of the far reaching strategy and proactive steps the region is positively all set to achieve the financial year’s target.
