KARACHI: The Pakistan Customs have foiled a bid to smuggle 1,200 grams amphetamine crystal to Saudi Arabia from Karachi airport. The value of the drug is more than Rs 120 million in the international market.
Additional Collector Syed Asad Raza Rizvi and Deputy Collector Ali Raza Turabi disclosed this while addressing a joint press conference after they foiled the smuggling attempt at Jinnah International Airport.
Briefing the media, the officers said the anti-drug enforcement staff intercepted a passenger namely as Zaman Sher son of Gul Fazal holding Pakistani passport No HW5125031 R/o Swabi, KPK. He was leaving for Saudi Arabia via Sharjah by Air Arabia flight no G9548. Owing to suspicion, his suit case was examined and recovered 500 grams (net) Amphetamine Crystal which was cleverly and artfully concealed in the back walls of the fiber made suit case, officers said.
The scrutiny of his travel documents revealed that passport was issued in the month of February 2016 from Mardan and was traveling for the first time with contraband amphetamine crystal 500 grams and the market value of the seized drugs is around Rs 5 million. The accused passenger has been arrested and prosecution case registered in the court of special judge-narcotics, Karachi.
On the same day, they said that another accused passenger named Ibrar Hussain son of Hussain Fazal, holding Pakistani passport No KR 6890773 r/o Swabi KPK who was also leaving for Saudi Arabia via Sharjah by Air Arabian flight No G9540.
Owing to suspicion, his suit case was examined and recovered 700 grams (net) amphetamine crystal which was concealed in the same kind of suit case.
The scrutiny of his travel documents revealed that passport was issued in the month of November 2015 from Swabi KPK and was traveling for the first time with drugs worth Rs 7 million. The accused has also been arrested after registering a case.
