Judge Faiz Rasool awards 16 days jail term, fine Rs 100,000 to tax defaulter

KARACHI: The Special Judge of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court of Faiz Rasool Rashdi awarded 16 days imprisonment along with Rs 100,000 fine to Ziaullah after he was found guilty of not paying duty and taxes.

The convict was arrested at the Karachi airport on March 13, 2016 when he was trying to leave the country without paying duty and taxes of the goods he was carrying.  After the confession of the convict, the judge counted 16 days from his date of arrest as his imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Anwer Fareed Farooq, an intelligence officer, intercepted the convict, Ziagham Ziaullah outside International Arrival Hall, JIAP, Karachi when he had arriving from Bangkok via flight no TG-341.

During the examination, Phantom -3 professional drone camera, laptop apple, osma DJI camera with all accessories, Panasonic laptop charger etc  were found from his possession. The convict was trying to leave without paying duty and taxes.

According to the prosecution, the offence made by the convict is punishable under section 156 (1)(8) of the Customs, Act,1969. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 on the convict who will have to undergo an additional two months imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine amount
