SHC adjourns hearing of petition filed by M/s UK Traders until April 28

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday sought comments from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman, commissioner Inland Revenue, Zone – IV, RTO-I, assistant commissioner Inland Revenue E & C Unit – 1, Zone – IV, RTO-I and deputy attorney general, directing them to file their respective comments on an application filed by M/s UK Traders against recovery of alleged outstanding demand of Rs 1,094,457.

A division bench of the SHC comprising Justice Munib Akhter and Justice Abdul Malik Gaddi fixed April 20 as the date for the hearing.

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel stated that petitioner is a registered partnership firm and importer/ exporter and a general order supplier of computers, printers, office stationary and other related items and fills its returns regularly.

According to the petitioner, importer was informed by its bank authority that officials of the FBR sent a notice in which the bank  was directed to immediately prepare a pay order of Rs. 1,094,457 in favor of FBR to clear the dues against the petitioner.

The counsel argued that petitioner had fulfilled all liabilities hence the impugned notice was illegal. The petitioner requested SHC to restrain the respondents from taking any coercive action against it. The court was further requested to set aside said impugned notice.
