Customs Court approves judicial remand of alleged cell phones, LEDs’ smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sent a suspect to jail on judicial remand who was allegedly involved in mobile phones and LED TVs smuggling case.

Earlier, the suspect, Khuram Shahzad, was on physical remand in the custody of the Sialkot Customs Investigation and Prosecution.

Shahzad was arrested by the Sialkot Customs Intelligence after recovery of mobile phones of assorted brand and LED TVs worth Rs 3.5 million from his possession.

Officials claimed that the suspect was a professional smuggler and has a big network in Lahore, Sialkot, Rawalpindi and Peshawar to safely shift the items from tribal areas to big cities of Punjab.

The Customs Investigation and Prosecution registered a case against him under Section 2 (s), 16, 139, 157(1) and 178 of Pakistan Customs Act, 1969.

The officials produced him before the court of Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan on Wednesday where customs court sent him to jail for further prosecution and trial.
