Customs Court may declare suspected smuggler as proclaimed offender

LAHORE: The Customs Court may declare a suspect as proclaimed offender as grace period given to him to appear before the court has expired.

According to details, Gull Bareen was alledgly involved in case of smuggling in which the customs court issued notices to three accused persons. the main accused Gull Bareen has failed to appear in court since the case was registered in 2013.

Earlier, the Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling directed Gull Bareen, to appear before the court within 10 days otherwise he will be declared as proclaimed offender but even after one month he is still absent from the court so as per notice issued to the accused, the customs court can declare him as proclaimed offender on the hearing to be held next week.

Gull Bareen son of Abdul Qayyum is a resident of Battagram Mansehra refugee camp. The Customs Court  had summoned the accused repeatedly but he did not appear before the court.

During the next hearing, the court will declares him as proclaimed offender and will seize his moveable or immovable property if he fails to appear in the court.

A case was registered against Gull Bareen by the Customs intelligence.  The FIR was registered in March 2013 against him but he is still at large.
