LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has adjourned the post arrest bail plea of an accused who was arrested by the authorities in a currency smuggling case.
Sources told Customs Today that the court approved a 14-day further judicial remand of the suspect, Qaiser Iqbal, during the last hearing.
Qaisar Iqbal was arrested by the customs authorities from Lahore airport while he was making an attempt to smuggle a huge amount of foreign currency from Pakistan to a Gulf state.
He was trying to fly through a Sharjah-bound flight of Airblue PA-410. He was on three days physical remand which was extended further for two days more and now after expiry of remand he has been sent to jail for judicial trial.
It is necessary to mention here that during checking of his luggage, the customs officials found US dollars, Euros and UK pounds that were equal to Rs 22 million in Pakistani rupees.
A case under section 156, (1), (68), (70), 157, 178 of Pakistan Customs Act 1969 was registered against him in investigation and prosecution branch of Customs House Lahore.
