FBR seizes goods worth Rs 4.7b during first ten month of current fiscal year: Khaldun-ul-Haq

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) seized miscellaneous goods worth Rs 4.57 billion during the first ten months of the current fiscal year from July 2015 to April 2016.

Deputy Director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Khaldun-ul-Haq said that the department has seized a huge quantity of smuggled items worth billions of rupees. He said that the seized items included imported clothes, tea, cigarettes, wine, petrol, diesel, auto spare parts, tire and tubes, and various electronics items.

He said that during different raids, the customs teams arrested 171 persons and filed 1,149 cases. He said that the FIA has impounded 420 non-customs paid vehicles and 388 other vehicles of which registration numbers were changed.

He said that during the successful raids the teams recovered smuggled petrol and diesel worth Rs 107 million. The seized narcotics include 4,682 kilogram charas, 19kg 6kg heroin, 40,550kg poppy seeds and six kilogram unspecified drugs which will be torched. He assured that tje FBR is taking strict action against the smugglers.

Sources told Customs Today that the department has decided to train its officials by police and army to curb smuggling once for all.
